The words of President Lenzi on the publication of the opinion
The National Commette on Biosafety, Biotechnology and Life Sciences (CNBBSV) recently launched the “Italian microbiome initiative for improved human health and agri-food production” to promote Research and Innovation on Microbiome and its beneficts on the primary production quantity, quality and sustainability and hence the food quality and safety and then the human health.
The document prepared was drafted by a small group of experts nominated by the CNBBSV President and then shared with all major national scientific communities and industrial associations concerned, which remarkably contributed to it.
The document highlights the need of a national strategy sustaining some specific Microbiome research and innovation priorities and a more effective integration and joint valorisation of knowledge and infrastructures and the public and private actors existing in the sector, as these are prerequisites for boosting innovation and Italian competitiveness in the wide Europe and international landscape.
